Even if I didn’t like nostalgia (and I do!), I would have been drawn into this book solely on the title and photos on the front cover. Those photos look as if they came right out of my family album and I’m sure many others will feel the same way. Besides that, anyone who grew up in the 1950s will be able to relate to this book even if that growing up didn’t take place on a farm.
There are four separate sections: Stories of the author’s youth (with such intriguing titles as “My Brief Infatuation with Spurs,” “Two Romeos,” “Learning from the Movies,” and “Learning the Hard Way—the Movies Again;” stories from his work experience in the U.S. Army and a telephone company career; his special interests (hunting and hunting dogs) and a section called “The Sporting Life” which includes a piece titled, “The Ultimate Redneck Convention.”
Sit back and get ready for a few good laughs!
